This week we heard from actor Gabourey Sidibe, star of Lee Daniels' new movie 'Precious,' based on the novel "Push" by Sapphire, with executive producers Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry. Gabby does an incredible job of portraying Precious, an illiterate, low-income teenage girl who faces incredible obstacles in her life, including brutal abuse inflicted by her parents, with pregnancies resulting from repetitive rape by her father. Remarkably, she finds the strength to triumph over these extreme hardships. Gabby spoke about this challenging role and told us about her role model growing up. Alright, I admit I didn't listen to the video but did read. Is the incestuous pregnancy a factual event or is this pure fiction? I have heard this was 'based' on a true story but that's some sick stuff to make up. If it's not true then only an idiot would think that an appropriate dramatic device to use in a national film about black people. If there is someone out there in this situation who will step forward that would be a teaching moment for the public. This 'black man as sexual beast' device is being used in too much black media and I don't appreciate it.

Well, it irritates me when "black folk" want to pretend that black children have not been getting raped, abused and tormented forever in our society.
There are just some people (white, black, brown, etc.,) who are predators of children. Some of these people are parents; trusted community types, etc., You don't 'appreciate' the black man as a sexual beast device?? What are you doing for the children who are victims of this type of abuse. Or are you more concerned with 'appearances'.
One of the major problems in the black community is that We don't want to air our dirty laundry. We want to shove it under the bed until it suffocates us to DEATH....This is true with HIV/AID and other STD's, child abuse, domestic violence...shall I continue. I don't care who the sexual beast is....find him or HER, charge them and put them to death. That's where I stand.
This society wants to continue to pretend that biological or 'preachers,teachers, uncles, cousins" don't rape their own. Some DO....whether you like the image or not.
