If you live in New York, Connecticut, Michigan, Indiana or New Jersey, chances are you are unhappy. They are the top five unhappiest states in the nation, according to a recent survey.

The survey found that people who reside in sunny states, such as Louisiana, Hawaii, Florida, Tennessee or Arizona, are happier than those who live in cooler climates, according to the Associated Press. The findings are based on a survey of 1.3 million people by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and gathered over four years.
One of the central questions was how happy people were with their lives. It was posed to residents of Louisiana, which ranked No. 1, before Hurricane Katrina tore through the home of Dixieland music. Also it was put to New Yorkers post-September 11, 2001. New York ranked last in the survey.

Still, unhappiness in most states can likely be attributed to the economy, congestion, and other socio-economic factors. Happiness can likely be attributed to a higher quality-of-life and a healthy dose of vitamin D, also known as the sunshine vitamin. Vitamin D strengthens the immune system and boosts the mood.

So if you're unhappy, consider moving to a happy state in 2010. Happy New Year!
