According to a study, black women who use chemicals in their hair and then braid or weave it are subject to permanent hair loss. After having 326 black women fill out a questionnaire, it was revealed that almost all of the women had relaxers and 1 in 6 of the women had scarring hair loss or what dermatologists call "central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia."
According to MSNBC.com:
"More than half the women with this condition said they had braids, weaves or hair extensions, as compared to only a third of those with less severe hair loss."
This balding has only been seen in black women and is thought to be caused by prolonged pulling of the hair strands, causing inflammation of the hair follicle. Once the balding begins, it starts at the top of the head and then spreads throughout.
The women most likely to have this form of alopecia also have three things in common:
"Reseachers found that women with scarring hair loss were also more likely to have type 2 diabetes, to braid or weave their hair tightly, and to have bacterial scalp infections."
Scarring hair loss first came to attention during the 1960s and was thought to be caused by hot combs. Little research, though, was done to confirm this theory.
Dr. Angela Kyei, who worked on the study that was published in the Archives of Dermatology, had this advice:
"This is just telling us there is a trend and we need to study it further. If there is any take-home message from this study, it is that hair grooming is not the only thing you should look at in these patients," Kyei noted. "If you have hair loss - specifically if you have the central type of hair loss, which is permanent - you need to seek medical attention."

What good will that do? The only way to get back one's hair is thru hair transplants and that's considered cosmetic not medical condition. These studies are so full of sh*t.

I'm guessing that by saying "if you have central type hair loss you need to seek medical attention" means that it might be an early symptom of a more serious health condition, so you would obviously need to seek medical attention to find out if there's anything more serious going on in your body..... not advice to make your hair grow back.

I've only experienced hair growth and thickness while wearing TEMPORARILY, my weaves, wigs and extensions. These are actually called protective styles and when installed and worn AND cared for correctly, these don't generally cause hair loss, at least not for me. I am blessed with a good, naturally thick crop of my own hair, but I have to give my own hair a break from the heat and the styling. You can't wear these weaves, wigs or extensions constantly, without caring for your OWN hair! That's asking for hair breakage! From the time you decide which hair, QUALITY HAIR, you want to use, to the installation, the styling, the upkeep, a silk bonnet at night, your hair care regimen may be more than wearing your own natural hair. Whenever I see a female with major hair loss, not illness related, by and large, she is incorrectly wearing these tresses.

As, if this is anything that's new news? BW have known this fact for years, but still continue to use a myriad of chemicals on their hair, and wear those ridiculous, foolish weaves that in reality make them look even more foolish then they already do! If, they just stop hating themselves for being black, and their hair then perhaps things would be different! But, BW want that white women look, but at the same time can't measure up! It's strange that BW are always talking about how beautiful BW are, but then turn right around, and want to look like WW, but can't! That's really sad!

Black women hates her own hair so she copy's a white womans hair doo look with ugly white look wigs, ghetto weaves with 2 textures of hair showing, and stinky chemicals and that ghetto burning hotcomb burning her ears and forehead all to achieve a fake false phoney white look hair doo to be "pretty" I always say to black women if you keep copying white womans straight stringy hair you woll go bald around the ears like Naomi Cambell, Or your hair will either stop growing or just fall off.
