From Frugivore: In a move that - if one pays attention to The Obama Administration's economic polices - shouldn't surprise anyone. First Lady Michelle Obama announced yesterday that she will be supporting an initiative that will allow the largest retailer in the world - along with other national chains - to bring their services to "food deserts."
This declaration comes on the heels of a groundbreaking study, which suggested supermarkets do not help low income families battle obesity and other food-related illnesses effectively. By bringing in retail heavyweights like Wal-Mart and SuperVal-U, they are essentially creating larger fast-food depots.

Wal-Mart does as much good for a food desert as hell does for a heatwave. While I understand the Nation’s largest retailer is a grocery store and can be that shining oasis in the desert… most people who shop Wal-Mart are not got to do the smart thing and stick to the perimeter of the store and buy organic. They’re probably going to buy the heavily salted processed and packaged foods that as Le Chele pointed out you can get from a McDonald’s or Burger King.
But it’s not so much a problem with Wal-Mart or fast food restaurants. Their businesses planning to make a buck the same way drug dealers do.
What really needs to be addressed is the way we eat in America. That’s what’s killing us. Wal-mart fast food restaurants and even the high end healthy places like panera or smoothie king are just helping us do it faster.

As someone posted under the article this gets down to transportation because I didn't know stores like Wal Mart and Target even sold food (I use grocery stores) until I was at a sports event for my child in Columbus Ohio (Buckeye country) and was asked to go pick up some fruit etc. at Target/Wal Mart (how ironic for topic)!
I think it's sad people with limited incomes have to go to Wal Mart and Target for healthy food. I bet to use grocery stores and Whole Foods they need transportation. I hated when I was a child (in St. Louis/E. St. Louis) we did things like this on the bus so I promised my children I would always own a car (and drivers license)!
I applaud the First Lady for understanding to not focus on the middle class but those who really need assistance to eat healthier with limited resources!!!!

How do you hide the word truth in a United State Court case?
Get yourself a bunch of judges and weak lawyers( employment lawyers, ) on your side . Who hide behind roman and catholic concept associated with numbers. To do such a job to make sure you don‘t understand their communication, but want you to explain your Ebonics!
These are people who are more interested in protecting each other and their criminal associates, than representing the word justice or honoring the words truth/honor.
(Remember this my fellow soldiers and vets, while you fighting to protect American rights!)
Just asked all the women who filed a law suit against Wal-Mart, or other who have filed in the past. These are judges, who allow you to represent yourself ,but in the back of their minds. They know they are going to dismiss all of your request in your defend. While granting the opposing parties lawyers ever request they want. (Sound Like discrimination!) Unless you are a young white girl (Florida,) than you get free lawyers(tax payers) and all the time they need to prepared your case.
OoH , don’t forget those organizations, radio and Tv talk show hosts as well various news papers and news station. Oops, oh My God! they are worry about their rating than to help!
This is the truth of the matter for all of my people who have suffered work place injustice in the work place, and in the courts. Also please read lawless America. com, but in our cases it’s the courts in our states!
Such actions occurred in The United State Court, in Philadelphia, Pa 601 Market, St Phila, Pa 19106-1790! From 2007 up until the present.
In their own words! Please read the following attached documents!
Its not hip- Hop or negative news! This is the truth of the matter for all of my people. Who have suffered work place injustice in the work place, and in the courts. Also please read lawless America. com, but in our cases it’s the courts in our states!
Mister!

What many don't realize is that MOST low income families/individuals receive some type of food assistance from the state. Under such programs hot foods cannot even be purchased; therefore, they are forced to purchase non-fast food. In addition, these desert areas are places that DO NOT have any type of grocery stores available within several miles, making it very difficult to choose healthy foods when they have no access to them. It isn't like most have personal transportation to drive the distance they need to get to where these stores are. As it stands now, the only way some of these areas have access to produce is that someone drives around in a truck selling it. Why shouldnt they have the same opportunity and access to healthy food as the rest of us???

Is Michelle Obama Selling Us Short With The Expansion of Wal-Mart in "Food Deserts"?
NO! is the answer. Just another case of make the president Wrong. I guess I'm not DOG enough to understand what I'm reading. Dogs don't get to choose their food so they have to eat what some administration and others put out for them. I'm I to judge politics and business by measuring my waist? No world administration or company acts as my parents. Fruit grows on trees, Fish fill oceans, steams, and rivers for free so how can I be T raped into choices by Wal-Mart, The First Lady, or Obama's Administration? When it comes to how round you are point the finger at the truth, that's the man in the mirror.
Greed. Those deserts are there because a business can't make enough money there. And there is no money in those areas because of discrimination in employment. Healthy Food: You can led a horse to water, but you can't make him drink it. There is big money in fast food the greedy pigs will never stop making it, and the other half will never stop eating it.

I agree with you AntBee! Stupid headline! Stupid topic! Stupid question! Maybe BV should ask why the republicans are giving THIS President such a hard time about raising the debt limit when they practically voted YES in their sleep to raise it for every past President? And not just about the debt limit, but about EVERYTHING this man tries to accomplish! And the total DISRESPECT for him as President of the United States, SHAMEFUL! Don't they realize we see and hear everything that they are doing?? The more they carry on this way the more I can't WAIT to cast another vote for our President in 2012! You Betcha!
