From Clutch:
Contrary to popular belief, all women do not want to have children. Shocking, I know.
I was watching the Today Show this morning, when they profiled Lilit Marcus, a woman who proudly does not want to have children. Although she is fairly certain in her decision, many have told her that she'll probably change her mind...eventually. Read more here.

Quote from article; 'Thankfully, more and more women are choosing what’s actually best for them, whether that means being a mother or staying childfree'.
I guess you can say that this newest revelation is similair to the abstinance movement practiced by many woman.
On the one hand it reveals personal responsibility and accountability on behalf of the woman...who in this case are 18 to 30 years old women..... to makes their own choices and protect themselves from getting pregeant while enjoying the personal. social and financial freedoms of not having a child but as times moves on and these younger women mature in their age, their way of thinking, their actions in their relationships and that natural biological clock beging to start ticking loudly while in their 30's and 40's and the pressures of being single approaching middle age without any children while your peers already have full families with growing children while you are still trying to party and still trying to get your freak on as a cougar now hangin' out as an old women among the younger women patrolling for both young and older men will get tired real quick and as you age, buyer's remorse will begin to set in and now the rush will be to not live alone.... get pregeant, foster parent, sperm bank or adopt.
In this case as you decide to wait you will bypass a lot of men who would probably be good candidates as husbands and fathers and in that rush and desperation to become a mother at a late age, anything will do to have that child coupled with older pregeant women and the medical and physical complications that comes with it.
And for the highly sexually active make sure that you don't corrpt your bodies internally that may prohibit your chances of having children if you decide later on to persue it.
So for that 1 in 5 women choosing to stay childfree just remember, as a younger energetic person with unlimited choices, a good decision but keep in mind that time is really not on your side, the window closes quickly and you can't party forever you will not be young forever and many of those 1 in 5 will change their minds as they get older.

Women can be selfish. We have kids at older ages and give them ridiculous names forgetting they have to live with these decisions as ADULTS!!! I worked with a white girl years ago who was angry her parents had her in their older years and didn't want to do anything to have fun as she was growing up. I'm glad I had my children young and gave them names they can walk into any environment and be proud to say it.
Oh I also made sure I got married and we have the same last names. I was so ashamed as a teen every man my mother had a baby by she put my siblings in that idiot's last name!!!
Ladies children aren't dolls to be thrown in a corner or out like trash (Casey Anthony etc.) when we want to party or hang with the girls. If you arent ready to take the backseat to a baby/child KEEP YOUR D@ LEGS SHUT!!!! Tiredof all the abuse happening to children today.

I think older generations see having children as the end all be all accomplishment whether you want them or not.
As a "millennial" I think we have a different perspective we rather know what we want and if kids aren't it that's just the way love goes.

My husband and I chose to be childfree, and after 17.5 yrs of marriage I just had my tubes tied to make sure. Not sure why more women dont chose have it done, instead of taking oral birth control for ever adding extra hormones to our bodies. Anyway, we love our lifestyle and plan on retiring in the Caribbean in 10yrs. We will enjoy our 3 dogs and 2 cats. For any woman getting married today needs to think twice before having a child when 51% of ALL marriages end in divorce. Who really wants to be a single parent?? Women wise up....you dont have to have a child or children if you dont want to period.

In these days and times who can afford to have a child and not worry about the future? Our public schools are falling. And if you have any money you have to worry if you will have it tomorrow. Then there's the Obama health care issue also. I wonder what people who are barely making it and in an uncertain profession are thinking about. Definitely those that are going to apply for medicade need to forget about it.
