From Clutch:
We've all seen her - the young black girl at the bus stop with a couple kids at her heels, one in a stroller, and another on the way. We want to know why she keeps having kids she can't afford.
If I leave the office on my lunch break, I'm apt to see all kinds of people roaming the streets. It's the middle of the day, why aren't you at work? I wonder.

Social services was the result of the new deal by FDR in response to the great depression. This "new deal" produced the social security act, medicare and the social services (welfare}.
The intended use of welfare was to provide a safety net until a person was able to get back on their feet - not as a way of life.
We all seen the young black unwed mothers with small children. And we you dig deeper you'll find that their mom and her mom was on welfare also. During the past 40+ years welfare has becomes a a way of life for too many.
According to the article of the 4 million people on welfare- 39% or 1,560,000 were on black in 2010. A figure that I find to be low due to the state of the economy. Other article I read say that 43 million americans are receiving food stamps.
Do we as americans need a safety net? Yes we do. You never know what life will throw at you. And this current environment shows why. There are people who has lost thier jobs thru no fault of their own - some have received severance pay and other unemployment benefits. But if one can't find employment after exhausting thier unemployment benefits then what?
There is an assault on social services especially by the states with repubilcans governors such as :
Michigan - restricted to a lifetime of 4 year limit.
Tennessee- mother of 2 receives $185 month.
Florida - welfare recipents must submit to a drug test.
The climate of social services is changing before our very eyes. Add in the weak economy- now is the time for personal responsibility and self reliance the way our great grandparents did. Unfortuantely today many americans black and white do not have self reliance skills and that's scary.

What are all those families that recieve social services going to do when they're dumped pennyless into the streets, move into shelters or become prisoners that get free medical 3 meals a day and the possiblitiy of getting an education, and then they'd be released into a society that has no jobs to give them is what started this mess in the first place.
If there was equal education and fare employment and promotions during the 50's to the present, there wouldn't be so many citizens with shattered dreams, while giving foriegners the education needed to take American jobs and returning to their nation of birth with the money they earned from those jobs that African Americans and Native Americans could've done--if we didn't have to deal with racism our parents and grandparents. and great grandparents. It's obvious that inequality of education has caused part of this poblem. but racism and mistrust is the other part.

BUM... they come across.... women don't teach and talk to their children.. because many of them haven't a clue themselves...

@renee, Young girls dress to provocative, even in school.Walkin around with daisy mae shorts on, hormones start to racing and pregnancy happens. Black kids have to much time and not enough supervision, the mama is trying to catch With all the sex on videos from rappers, these kids are only acting out what they see. Parents take your head out the sand, your daughter is out screwing and your son is out servicing them.

I was once one of them in my 20's. I was in the system for 7 years. I fed my child, always. Was always complimented on how she and I dressed. I kept my house spotless. I paid my rent on time every month. I seldom had company, I went out for socializing. BUT, with any money left over I did the nails, hair, drank and smoked weed.
I had to grow up and realize I was being usless and lazy. I entered several programs that got me job ready and motivated to become the productive person I am today. I've been on the same job 15 years, don't do drugs and pay ALL of my bills.
We don't necessarily need to stop welfare, BUT we need the recipients to give back in some form of paid work or volunteer work. To just sit back and watch the economy fall apart while giving away the money is no longer an option.

Young woman, thank you for this beautiful and honest testimony. Giving back is the key to those who are welfare assistance. You don't have be a career welfare receipient, it's not enough to live on! Every welfare receipient should give back to the community. Stop the dependency. In this life, nothing is easy, but you can do better.

Wrong! We do need to stop people just like yourself that continue to accept their personal responsibility, and then want yo continue to bring these unwanted, and unloved baabies into the world that they already know they can't even feed nor provide a decent life for! Most BW and you're also probably one of them just use their children to "get over on the sysytem", and you know that's the truth! You want tp have babies? Then go get married first! And also you and your husband can take support them! And, not have to live off the taxpayer dime! You made the decison to lad down and make that child, so it should be your responsibility to provide for it.

I along with America as a whole are sick and tired of seeing all these unmarried Black women having all these OOW babies at over 70%! that's just pathetic, and completely irresponsible behavior. Enough already!
